The 53rd annual John Donald Robb Concert features world-class contemporary chamber music performed by internationally renowned organist Maxine Thévenot; Buffalo, New York based cellist Jonathan Golove; prominent New Mexico musicians Jeffrey Brooks (clarinet) and Natasha Stojanovska (piano). The concert celebrates works by John Donald Robb (1892-1989) and Jonathan Golove (b. 1966), world premieres by gifted New Mexico composers 冯 重瑞 Kelly Feng, Carlos Santiago Medina, and Lucas Stafford, plus a special poetry reading by Albuquerque-based poet Mark Weber.

The program will feature the Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 75 and Three Organ Works: Overture and Fugue, WWO58 (1946), Introduction and Toccata for Goodsell Slocum, Op. 30 (1956), Wedding Music for Clarinet and Organ, Op. 7 by John Donald Robb, Kreisler’s Coat (2011) for violoncello and piano and I do this, I do that #9 by Jonathan Golove with text by Mark Weber and Three world premieres for unaccompanied cello ~ 冯 重瑞 Kelly Feng, Carlos Santiago Medina, and Lucas Stafford.

There will be performances by Maxine Thévenot organ, Jonathan Golove cello, Jeffrey Brooks clarinet, Natasha Stojanovska piano, Mark Weber, poet.

The Robb Trust supports the musical legacy of John Donald Robb, furthers his commitment to education, and advances music of the Southwest. Robb served as dean of the UNM College of Fine Arts (1942-57) and was responsible for starting the UNM Symphony and many other initiatives. As a composer, he produced an impressive body of work performed worldwide. His fascination with traditional folk music led him to collect 3,000 field recordings of traditional songs and dances, which are digitally archived at the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections. Learn more at robbtrust.org
