We are saddened to hear of the passing of Al Hurricane Jr. He was 66.
Al Hurricane Jr. spent his entire life in New Mexico learning from his iconic father and exceeding Al Sr’s legacy. Like many other children of famous parents, he went his own way, mixing traditional Spanish music with new rhythms, genres and taking the music in a whole new direction. His shows were exciting, entertaining and filled with New Mexico talent as he made use of the formidable musicians, vocalists and dancers here. Al was also a producer, bringing young New Mexico talent into the fold but primarily produced records for his band on the family label, Hurricane Records.
He never shied away from his junior status, preferring instead to honor his father as “El Godson.” The New Mexico music community would not be what it is today without artists like Al Hurricane Jr.
The Sanchez family would like to invite you to join us in honoring & celebrating the life of
Al Hurricane, Jr.
A rosary will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Queen of Heaven Church in Albuquerque with the funeral mass to follow on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM, also at Queen of Heaven Church.
