Taylor's Calling Foundation is looking for songs about substance abuse and recovery for a compilation CD to benefit their heroin awareness education program.

The Taylor's Calling foundation is holding a competition asking songwriters to compose songs about substance abuse and recovery for a compilation CD that will benefit the foundation and help fund a program that intends to take the message about substance abuse to public schools statewide. Each song entered will be judged on content and the strength of the message. Those songs selected will be included on a CD that will be used to raise money for the organization.

The foundation is named for Taylor Michael Shaffel who passed away in May of 2013 from a heroin overdose. Taylor was the only child of Larry Michaels, director of photography for the Albuquerque Film and Media Experience and Kim Taylor. Substance abuse and heroin abuse is a huge problem in New Mexico and this is an opportunity for artists and songwriters to make a difference.

To enter and for details on the competition, go to taylorscalling.org and click on the songwriters submissions link. The entry fee is $25.00 and you will be asked to agree to certain terms and conditions. Spread the word. Don't let heroin be your final act.

We will also begin presenting a program for veterans spring of 2013 in Albuquerque entitled Songwriting as a Therapeutic Process to help those who have served our country honorably communicate their experiences in the theater of war. We will be expanding these programs beyond New Mexico to the southwestern and western US.  We are currently looking for sponsorship to cover artist fees, travel and other expenses. Music is a powerful tool and should be used to educate as well as entertain.
