The 35th Annual New Mexico Music Awards weekend is fast approaching and the finalists for this year’s event have been announced. Scheduled for May 22nd of 2022, the 35th looks to be amazing with some incredible talent lined up as well as appearances from iconic artists and songwriters like Gary Moore, Chris Hillman, Ronny Cox, Harriett Schock, Tim Pierce, Zach Fowler, Chevel Shepard and many more.
Each year the New Mexico Music Awards recognizes the best in recorded music in New Mexico with a banquet and show featuring performances by some of New Mexico’s best talent. Awards are presented in 42 categories including Latin, Americana, Country, Jazz, Hip Hop, Indie and include the Norman Petty Producer’s Awards and Best Album of the Year.
Finalists come from throughout New Mexico including Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Truth or Consequences, Clovis, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Taos, Santa Teresa, Tijeras, Ruidoso, Tesuque, Sunland Park, Los Lunes, Belen, Bernalillo, Farmington and even tiny towns like Dexter and Lone Butte. Most record in professional recording studios, but some also record in home studios with surprising results.

This year we celebrate with a two-day event at the beautiful Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque.
Saturday May 21st during the day we will off a free Therapeutic Songwriting Workshop for Veterans. The event pairs vets and songwriters to create music able to communicate the military experiences of women and men who have served in the armed forces. Saturday evening, we will present a benefit concert for the Eric Larson Endowment at the University of New Mexico featuring the Michael Anthony/Paul Gonzalez Quartet, Mister Kali featuring Joseph General, Larry Mitchell featuring John Kurzweg and New Mexico’s favorite band, Nosotros celebrating 29 years together. We will also present the Eric Larson Lifetime Achievement Award at that time.
NMMA co-founder Eric Larson passed away in 2005 and an endowment was set up at UNM in his honor. The Scholarship benefits junior and senior students who are studying music.
On Sunday, May 22nd, the 35th Annual New Mexico Music Awards kicks off with cocktail mixer at 5:00 PM followed by dinner and an awards show featuring performances by some of our finalists.
