The Sunport Serenade program from the City of Albuquerque showcases New Mexico musicians and entertains travelers to and from the Duke City. We spoke with the Albuquerque Sunport’s Jonathan Small about the re-launch of their Sunport Serenade series and he gave us the details on the program. Here’s the skinny.

Performances begin in August and go through the end of the year. Applications will be accepted through July 15th of this year. The calendar fills up fast, so signing up early is best to get the dates you want.

The city will pay each solo, duo, trio or group $150.00 per hour for 2-3 hours of music. No tipping will be allowed (or at least, greatly discouraged.)The performances will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Great Hall in the SE section of the Sunport.

Artists must provide their own sound systems. Power will be available.

They are looking for local (NM) artists who play lighter, easier music. It may be any style of music, but not too loud so as to entertain travelers, not distract them. While they prefer instrumental performances, they will accommodate artists with vocals. Ballads are okay.

May be original or covers, but must fit the above parameters.

You do not need to become a licensed vendor with the city, but you will have to fill out some paperwork.

Payment is not made day of the performance, but will arrive by check shortly after your performance.

Artists will be given instructions on where to park for loading and unloading.
